Driving Motives and Road Safety
A driver's conduct while driving is directly affected by various motives, which then affects the road safety in general. The research into the relation between the motives of driving, drivers' conduct and occurrence of traffic accidents was conducted among young drivers aged 18 to 24, who had no more than three years of driving experience. The research information relating to driving motives and conduct was collected through interviews conducted with the young drivers. The collected data was then computer-processed, in the program specifically adapted for this purpose. The chi-square method was used to test the statistical characteristics among the given distributions of certain results with theoretical expectations based on the principle of proportionality of individual distribution of results in regard to the traffic accidents that involved the drivers surveyed. The indicators produced show that certain motives of driving and drivers' conduct are related to occurrence of traffic accidents.
