Seasonal dynamics and emergence of caddisflies (Trichoptera, Insecta) at the plitvice lakes
Adult Trichoptera were observed at the Plitvice Lakes over two years (2000 and 2001) using pyramid-type emergence traps. Traps were installed at four sampling sites in the year 2000 (Crna rijeka, Bijela rijeka, Crna rijeka-Plitvički Ljeskovac, Labudovac) and additional one in the year 2001 (Kozjak-Milanovac). A total of 779 specimens were collected during the 2000, belonging to 34 species, and 507 specimens during the 2001, belonging to 30 species. Micropterna lateralis Steph. was recorded at the Plitvice Lakes for the first time. The period of emergency is given for each species. During the 2000 most species emerged in June and July and in 2001 in June and September. Diversity (expressed as Shannon-Wiener, Simpson, Brillouin indices and maximal biodiversity) was highest at the travertine barrier Labudovac and lowest at the limnocrenic spring Bijela rijeka. Equitability was highest at the two travertine barriers, Labudovac in 2000 and Kozjak-Milanovac in 2001. We determined the highest similarities (expressed as Sørensen index) at the two kind of springs – rheocrenic spring Crna rijeka and limnocrenic spring Bijela rijeka.
