Nonconventional Energy Supply System for a High Category Hotel

In the paper an optimisation of nonconventional energy supply system for high category hotel has been given. Such a system is suitable for all high category hotels with whole year round operating. The analysed system consists of a water-water heat pump for heating and cooling of the hotel, dry cooler, two hot water storage tanks (low- and high-temperature), flat plate solar collector system or electrical heater as an auxiliary heating source. Emphasis has been given on using condenser waste heat as a result of the heat pump cooling process. Comparison with a system, which uses flat plate solar collectors, has also been done. To facilitate the numerical analysis and system optimisation, a convenient computer program has been developed. The input parameters for the analysis have been used from Test Referent Year (TRY) data for the North Adriatic Coast climatic conditions. The hourly water consumption has been chosen based on the real fluctuation of hotel guest numbers. The overall expenses for water heating have been reduced and adequate hot water capacity has been provided. Choosing the proper heating and cooling system with water-water heat pump, it is possible to utilise the condenser heat during the day. During the night, when the price of electrical energy is lowest, the heat pump is used for additional water heating. With such a system and properly dimensioned low- and high-temperature storage tanks the electrical energy consumption can be minimised. As a result of the analysis, the most convenient storage tank sizes have been determined. The amount of energy consumption for additional heating has also been fixed. The goal of the analysis is to provide adequate nonconventional energy supply system to minimise the energy consumption.
