Comparison of some haematological and biochemical parameters in the blood between different breeds of cattle in Croatia
The aim of the study was to compare some haematological and biochemical indicators in the blood of simmental cows from Krapinsko-Zagorska County, Holstein cows from Osječko-Baranjska County and autochthonous Istrian cows from Istria County. Blood was taken from dairy cows in different stadiums of the production cycle (before and after parturition in peak milk produciton, and in the drying-off period). The herd of holstein cows was held in farm conditions, and simmental and istrian cows were herd im small family-holding barns. Animals were fed localy produced silage and hay and with commercial feed mixture. Some tested parameters showed significant difference between differnt breeds of cattle, and some values were not within physiological ranges. The reason for those findings could lie in some sub-clinical diseases, differences in feeding and care and different climatic conditions, but also in a different genetic potential between breeds.
