Evaluation of yield stability of Croatia soybean lines (F4-F6 generation) and cultivars by analyses of the interaction genotype x environment

The main objective of our study was to evaluate grain yield stability of some Croatia soybean lines and cultivars 0-I maturity group. During the growth season of 1993-1997 both grain yield and quality of 20 soybean lines (derived F4-F6 generation) and four cultivars were investigated by means of microtrials in the area of Eastern Croatia. All investigated soybean lines and cultivars throughout field trials were created at the Osijek Agricultural Institute. Yield stability of genotypes studied was estimated by the following parameters: mean yield (y), regression of mean yield on an environmental index (b) and the estimation of the remaining interaction component of variance in genotype x environment interaction, due to the contribution of each genotype. The results of the research showed high variations both in grain yield and grain quality among tested genotypes with great significant differences. According to the parameters of stability, the study also showed high differences among genotypes in the stability grain yield and its quality. It has been obvious that the climate strongly affects grain yield and stability of grain yield, among other factors, during the growth season. The obtained results also clearly indicated that is possible to create cultivars of soybean with high genetic potential and good stability of grain yield in different environmental conditions.
