Fitokemijski pregled čičimaka i srodnih vrsta roda Zizyphus Juss.

Phytochemical data about species of the genus Zizyphus are collected. Zizyphus jujuba Mill. is a small wild tree, which grows in China, Australia, America, Asia and Mediterranean. It is also a cultivated plant in Yugoslavia (Dalmatia and Montenegro). Zizyphus species contain polyphenols (flavonoids and derivatives of benzoic acid), antrachinons, alkaloids, saponins, organic acids, sugars and lipids. Zizyphus species are used in traditional medicine, especially for treating insomnia. The fruits of Zizyphus jujuba Mill. are commonly used for bronchitis while the bark is used to heal diarrhea, ulcers and wounds and the root is used to control fever.
