The Multi Element Profile of Human Hair in Croatia - A Cross Sectional Study
Hair is an easily available human tissue and suitable for early detection and follow-up monitoring of trace elemnts nutritional deficieny and toxicological excess. The hair multielement profile of 22 minerals and trace elements was studied in a cross-sectional sample of 199 men abd 730 women from all over the Croatia. We observed a high incidence of trace element deficieny and/or excess (imbalance) of about 20% of analyzed samples. The most frequent imbalances were that of Mn, Se, Zn, Fe, Mg, Cr, P, Cu and K in men and Mn, Fe, Se, Zn, Cr, K, Si and Mg in women. The values of technogenic elements Al, As, Be, Co, Ti, Pb, Ni, V, Cd and Sn were higher in men than women ; presumably reflecting the differences in the occupational environment.
