Comparison of subscapularis tendon transfer technique and direct suture tecnique for massive rotator cuff tears
The aim of this study is to compare late results of subscapularis tendon transfer technique and direct suture technique after massive rotator cuff tears.Between 1992 and 2000 patients with massive rotator cuff tears were operated at Department of Orthopedic Surgery Zagreb by senior surgeon. In this record review study results were evaluated according to Constant Score questionnaire and arm strength, pain relief and subacromial distance were evaluated. We suggest direct suture technique for massive rotator cuff tears wherever possible because better strength, ROM and slower cranial migration of the humeral head can be achieved. Although results after subscapularis tendon transfer technique are not as good as in direct repair, the technique gives good pain relief and range of motion.
