Exploring Health and Behavior Outcomes Among Immigrants in Croatia
As a part of the European Commission Project, the study that refers to the data collected on the Croatian adolescents had its aims: 1. To determine the differences between immigrant and host adolescents on health and behavior outcomes, and 2. To explore which of the demographic, risk and protective factors predict the outcomes that are found to be critical for these immigrants. The results suggest that male immigrants seem to show no difficulties in developing positive outcomes when compared to host male adolescents ; rather they evidence more positive outcomes. On the other hand, origin has negative effects in development of certain outcomes among female immigrant adolescents. Results from regression analyses concerning predictors such as ethnic identity and religion variables, as well as assimilation and integration acculturation strategies, suggest that being more similar, or trying to assimilate/integrate more does not always lead to more positive outcomes.
