The suitability of Muscat varieties for their cultivation in Istria (Croatia)
The Muscat varieties were traditionally grown in some parts of Istria, but their production is neglected riecently. However they are very interesting forthe market, due to their characteristic bouqet.The justifiability of viniculture muscats varieties with regard to the yield, quality and price of wine was investigated in comparison with Istrian malvasia, the most produced variety. These muscat varieties: White muscat, Yellow muscat, and Istrian (Momjan) muscat*, and Istrian malvasia as a standard were examined in the the period of two years (1994 and 1995). The yield per vine, and the contents of sugar and total acids in must were recorded at harvest time. The prices of wine on the market for Muscat varieties and Istrian malvasia of the same producers from Istria were compared. The results showed the expansion justifiability of Muscat varieties in Istria (Croatia).
