Liposome-encapsulated superoxide dismutase increased activity of superoxide dismutase in epithelial cells
Superoxide dismutase (SOD) was encapsulated into liposomes in order to increase its releasing time and to facilitate its cellular penetration. Positively, neutrally and negatively charged liposomes were prepared by the proliposome method using soybean lecithin, stearylamine, phosphatidylglycerol and cholesterol. The efficiency of SOD entrapment was 39-65%. A2182, human lung carcinoma cells, were treated with liposome encapsulated SOD, 20 U/ml of media. All liposome preparations were successfully delivered SOD to the cells. The biggest increase in the activity was achieved by negatively charged liposomes.
