Work values in Croatia: hierarchy and structure trough transition process
This study present changes of work values in Croatia during last 20 years. In comparison we used results from 1983, 1993 and 2002 research studies. WIS Value Scale, that measures 20 work values, was administered to Croatian high school students in all three studies. The results show some expected changes in value hierarchy, as well as minor changes in value structure. The mayor change has happened in work values importance from 1983 to 1993, and it’ s just emphasized in 1983 to 2002 comparison. In that period general increase in utilitarian and individualistic values is clearly shown. The differences between 2002 and 1993 are much smaller. However, some decline in adventurous and self-actualising orientation, and increase in utilitarian orientation can be seen from results. It seems that transition process and socio-economic changes rapidly (in few years, till 1993rd) and irreversibly changed hierarchy of students work values. Furthermore, we can see 20-year trend of constant gain of importance in advancement and prestige, and decrease in altruism and aesthetic values.
