Development of Chromatography Method for Determination of Surfactants in Textile Waste Waters
Waste waters from textile industry often contain very large amounts of cationic, anionic or non - ionic surfactants that need to be removed before relishing into the environment. Method that will be chosen for the determination of surfactants has to be selective, fast and economically and ecologically optimal. Thin layer chromatography is an analytical method for simultaneous separation and identification of components that are present in the sample. It can be applied for determination of numerous components from the waste water samples ; such are surfactants, heavy metals, drugs and other chemical components due to the variety of stationary and mobile phases that can be chosen. In this work several mobile and stationary phases were tested according to the Rf and Rs criterion, where Rf presents the ratio between the distance that component has gone and the distance that solvent has gone, and Rs is the difference between the distance of two components. Determination and documentation of chromatograms was performed with the CAMAG Video Documentation System in conjunction with the Reprostar 3.
