Reinforcement of imperfect bilobe cargo tanks in liquefied gas carriers

Misalignment of the Y-joint of shells in bilobe cargo tanks of Liquefied Gas Carriers is a consequence of fabrication problems. As a result stress concentration may exceed the allowable value. This challenging problem is solved by reinforcement of the imperfect tank structure. For this purpose FEM strength analysis of tank segment is performed. A stress diagram depending on the shells eccentricity in the Y-joint and the extent of reinforcement as a parameter has been designed for general practical use.
