Interface Phenomena of Hydrolized Polyester Fabric

Alkaline hydrolyses of polyester fabrics is one possible way of modifying polyester fabrics. This type of finishing results in a better comfort and other properties. Chemical attack during hydrolysis occurs at the fiber surface because the ionized inorganic compound cannot readily diffuse in hydrophobic structure. As the surface markedly change it was studied the interface phenomena and mechanical properties of treated fabric. The paper will discuss the effect of two different accelerators on the change of zeta potential and surface free energy (gs). Zeta potential was measured by streaming current method. Contact angle was measured on DataPhysics OCA 20 Instrument, at 23 oC using three different liquids, water, formamide and diiodomethane. From the results of disperse and polar components surface free energy was calculated. It was recently shown that the effect of this reaction depends on the kind of cationic accelerator. In the present work the effect of different compounds, cationic surfactant and 3-chloro-2hydroxy-propy-trimethyl ammonium chloride (CHPTAC) on interface phenomena and mechanical properties of polyester is discussed.
