Adsorption of Ssurfactants on Textile Fibres
Adsorption of surfactants was investigated on different textile fibres. The fibres included cotton, wool, polyester and polyamide. Three classifications of surfactants: cationic, anionic and nonionic were adsorbed by textile fibres in alkaline and acid condition at 20 oC. Adsorbed amounts of dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide, sodiumdodecyl sulfate and Triton X-100 by textile fibres were determined indirectly from solution using potentiometric titration method. Capillary properties of porous textile fibres are important for the rate of surfactant adsorption. Beside of this, adsorption rate is influenced upon electrokinetic potential of textile fibres. Electrokinetic potential of purified textile fibres was measured in relation to pH of electrolyte solution using streaming current method. Wide variations were found in the adsorption capacity of different fibres.
