Is there collusion between enterprises operating in industries with high level of concentration
Enterprises operating in industries with small number of actors (e.g. highly concentrated industries) have possibility to choose between cooperative and non-cooperative strategic behaviour. Non-cooperative behaviour (rivalry) implies acting of an enterprise at its own discretion without explicit or implicit collusion with other enterprises. Contrary to this, enterprises can act cooperatively if they want to minimise mutual competition and realise joint profit maximization. Some authors have found out the presence of (non-)cooperative strategic behaviour in different country, so this paper aims to find out whether collusion is the dominant behaviour pattern of the large leading enterprises in Croatia. The research was conducted for those three-digit manufacturing industries in which four or more large enterprises were active during the period between 1996-2000.
