3-D Simulations of Turbulence Fields Based on Turbulence Principal Components
Turbulence is usually schematised by a weakly stationary Gaussian multi-variate and multi-dimensional random process. The digital simulation of correlated turbulence time series requires a cmplete model of its statistical properties. The proper Orthogonal Decomposition provides efficient tools tp establish an appropiate model of the two-point coherence function of the longitudinal and vertical components, completing the statistical model of turbulence. It also allows to formulate a new model of turbulence field based on principal components. Embedded in a Monte Carlo framework, this new representation is used to simulate the three correlated turbulence components in N points in space.
