Optimization of size pick-up on yarn
Sizing is carried out with the aim of reducing thread breakage rate in weaving, deformation of warp threads and static electricity. Optimizing size pick-up in the width and length direction of warp represents a complex task in the sizing process. Controlling parameters in optimizing size pick-up are defined by substance balance. According to the developed equation substance balance in the sizing process there are three parameters affecting size pick-up, namely: inlet moisture content, outlet moisture content and size concentration. According to the results obtained on three different yarns the influence of inlet moisture content on size pick-up is manifested by way of sizing and substance balance according to the developed equation. Likewise very similar results of size pick-up were obtained in two mentioned ways. The correlation between inlet moisture content and size pick-up is very high under all conditions, whereby the accuracy of the developed equation for substance balance in the sizing process is confirmed. Keywords: yarn, size pick-up, inlet moisture content, outlet moisture content.
