Publishers and librarians in Central and Eastern Europe - love or hatred?

The article is based on experiences in the following countries: Czech Republik, Croatia, Hungary, Latvia , Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovenia and Slovakia. A short description of the two professions today, with regard to their socialist heritage will be given. The current status of intellectual property rights is discussed. The role of national libraries, as central institutions concerned with union catalogues, digital collections, ILL, and the influence of electronic data bases with regard to ILL is described. Possible future trends in the field will be traced.
