Managing interoperability problems in power system using information modeling
With the restructuring and deregulation process in the electric utilities the need for the usable information is increasing. Interoperability of devices as well as application interoperability is one of the key issues in today's electric utility successful operation. Standardization of protocols, interfaces, device data, etc. has been in focus during the past decade. Today a great deal of attention is focused on two major standards in progress, IEC 61970 and IEC 61850. Thus, proper, correct and standardized information has become one of the most important issues. In this paper we propose guidelines for SCADA information modeling, as the first step in the standardization of the information needed on different levels, considering the use of object models in the emerging standards.
