SUMMARY OLD COINS FOUND IN THE REGION OF SVETI IVAN ZELINA The most important numismatic find from the region of Sveti Ivan Zelina was a hoard of c. 30.000 Antoniniani, discovered on 10th April 1918 at Komin, a village situated on the vital Zagreb-Varaždin road, most probably the Roman settlement Pyrri. It was a pot burial. In spite of the fact that many coins were dispersed, the bulk of the hoard was taken to the Zagreb Archaeological Museum by the authorities, and it is kept there. The hoard contained coins of the following emperors and empresses: Marcus Aurelius (181-180) ; Caracalla (198-217) ; Gordianus I. (238) ; Gordianus III. (238-244) ; Philippus I. (244-249) ; Otacilia Severa ; Trajanus Decius (248-251) ; Herennius Etruscus (250-251) ; Herennnia Etruscilla ; Trebonianus Gallus (251-253) ; Volusianus (251-253) ; Aemilianus (253) ; Valerianus I. (253-259) ; Mariniana ; Gallienus (253-268) ; Salonina ; Valerianus II. (255-258) ; Saloninus (258-260) ; Postumus (258-269) ; Macrianus (261-262) ; Quietus (261-262) ; Claudius II. Gothicus ( 268-270) ; Victorinus (265-268) ; Tetricus I. (268-273) ; Quintillus (270) ; Aurelianus (270-275) ; Severina ; Vaballathus/ Aurelianus (266-271) ; Tacitus (275-276). The mints represented in the hoard were: Rome, Siscia, Antioch, Cyzicus, Mediolanum, Gaul, Ticinum, Viminacium, Orient, the Balkans, Serdica and Tripolis. This material, being of great importance for the Roman numismatics of the first half of the 3rd century A.D., has been studied by a considerable number of scholars, such as J. Brunšmid, A. Alföldi, J. Klemenc, Z. Barscay-Amant etc., and published by the last in 1937. Judging from the inventories of the Royal and Imperial Major Mijat Sabljar, director of the Zagreb Croatian National Museum, a second coin hoard from the same area was unearthed at Trsci in the fifties of the 19th century. It consisted of Hungarian denars struck by Matthias I. Corvinus (1458-1490) and Wladislaw II. (1490-1516) and seems to have been buried after A.D. 1515. Thirteen specimens from the Trsci hoard were presented in those days to the museum by Dr. Ante Stojanović, an attorney.
