Polytraumatized adult persons
Since the beginning of the war against Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, the number of persons with polytraumatic experiences have been constantly increasing. The exact number of victims with psychic sequelae of such traumas is not known and can only be estimated. At present, the number of displaced persons and refugees in Croatia is close to 500, 000. Most of them are situated in refugee camps and temporary settlements (hotels etc) throughout Croatia ; many kive with relatives or foster families. Outside Croatia, refugees live in refugee camps or in different types of temporary settlements. Traumatic experiences of these people differ in their manner, intensity, duration and quality. Generally, they can be devided into following groups according to the manner of trauma: displacement-refugee, loss of home and members of family (killed, missing), detention in concentration camps, psyhical and psyhological torture, combat stress, wounding, rape etc. Alomost all of them have more than one traumatic experience.
