X-ray diffraction study of microstructural evolution of some ZrO2-Y2O3-MgO powder mixtures induced by high-energy ball milling.
The influence of the high-energy ball milling, at the 14g centrifugal acceleration, on a series of compositions from the ceramic pseudo-ternary zirconia-yttria-magnesia (ZrO2-Y2O3-MgO) powder system has been studied mainly by the X-ray diffraction analysis. An extensive solid solubility of both yttria and magnesia in zirconia, as well as polymorphic phase transformation of zirconia, zirconia-based solid solution and yttria are well established, whereas the structure of magnesia remains almost unaffected.
Preparation of powder insulators; Series of compositions of some zirconia-yttria-magnesia (ZrO2-Y2O3-MgO) powder mixtures; Microstructural changes; High-energy ball milling; X-ray diffraction.
