Experimental and computation simulation of a dam-break problem

A series of wave propagation induced by the break of a dam was simulated by experimental and numerical model. A physical laboratory model was established to verify the accuracy of numerical model. Experimental research was made in rectangular straight channel with concrete bed. Experiments were made for sudden removal of a whole dam and for sudden removal of a part of dam. Usporedba dobivenih rezultata je pokazala utjecaj veličine breše on the decrease of the maximum water level and maximum discharge and flood wave curve at assigned locations. In numerical model dam break problem is consider as a shallow water phenomenon, thus assuming negligible vertical variations of the flow properties, except for pressure. Results obtained from both models are presented and compared.
