Planning methodology of inland waterways traffic

In the EU traffic system the inland waterways are gaining in significance, especially after the opening of the Danube-Rhine-Main waterway. The advantages of the inland waterway traffic related to the transport of huge amounts of cargo, lov energy consumption and share of human work, and especially the extremely low negative impact on the environment can be compared by means of human work, and especially the extremely low negative impact on the environment can be compared by means of a comparative analysis with rail and road traffic. The shift in the technology from the towed to the pushed systems, then the introduction of self-propelled ships for specific types of cargo, as well as Ro-Ro tehnology, have revealed great competitive capabilities of inland waterway traffic compared to the railways and even more so compared to road traffic. The plans of construction and restoration of the waterways in the Republic of Croatia require a methodological approach to the planning of traffic flows especially for the river Sava along which, in corridor X, there are the railway line and the highway. The methodology of planning and selection of the traffic branch in a certain corridor or region starts from a number of factors and as a rule compares the railway, road and inland waterway traffic. The work is structured in the following way:1.Introduction 2.The structure of traffic on inland waterways 3.Comparasion analysis of the railway, road and inland waterway traffic 4.Traffic planning methodology on inland waterways 5.Conclusion
