3D numerical model for heat conduction analysis based on IR thermography
3D model based on control volume numerical method was used for simulation of the heat conduction in a flat metal plate having artificially made defects. The plate was made of steel with known thermal properties and the defects of different depth were hollowed out in a form of cylinders. These recesses represent the places damaged by corrosion. The result of simulation was the temperature distribution on the intact and recess side of the plate. The temperature distribution on the metal plate surfaces is a consequence of the material properties, start and boundary conditions, heat stimulation intensity and duration. The goal of the research was to find if there is a possibility to combine thermography and numerical model to determinate the corrosion intensity on a surface of thin metal plate being on the side which normally could not be seen.
