Lysozyme in serum of children with respiratory disorders
The concentration of the lysozyme in the sera of healthy children and of the children with various respiratory disorders (bronchitis, bronchopneumonia, pneumonia and lung tuberculosis) was determined by a simple and fast turbidimetric procedure. Increased values of lysozyme were found in sera taken from all groups of children studied, but were highest (p<0, 001) in children with pneumonia (diagnostic sensitivity was 96%). A simultaneous increase in the leukocyte coun in pneumonia did not significantly contribute to an increase in sysozyme concentration (r=0, 068). Accordingly, determination of lysozyme concentration in serum is considered useful in routine procedures as a simple, rapid and inexpensive method in initial examinations of patients with pulmonary disorders.
