Locking Suppression in Thin-Walled Degenerated Finite Elements: Unification of Concepts
Various techniques of locking suppression in the analysis of thin-walled shell structures using degenerate finite elements based on Timoshenko hypothese are considered: the hybrid model of FEM, the reduced integration technique, the substitute shape function, the A. S. Sakharov moment scheme of the FEM, the discrete satisfaction of Kirchhoff conditions and the use of non-conforming elements. It is established that all these approaches are in broad sense particular cases of the "generalized" hybrid model based on the galerkin method. The proposed classification enables us to evaluate the results concerning the convergence of the techniques and to justify theoreticaly the legitimacy of their application.
