Geology of bauxite deposits in the Lištica (Herzegovina) and Imotski (Dalmatia)regions
Complicated tectonic structures of Cretacous and Paleogene sediments with reverse faults are bearers of the Paleogene bauxite deposits. The Liburnian sediments-algal limestones and limestone breccias, foraminiferal limestones and flysch-were deposited in continuation, while Paleogene clastic sedimentary complex is laid transgressively and uncomfforably over bauxite and its footwall rocks. There are three bauxite horizons. the most frequent bauxite deposits are Early Paleogene ones, boehmitic-hematitic in composition and with oolithic textures, which formed predominately from insolubale residue of weathered carbonate rocks during calm tectonic periods on poorly developed paleorelief.
