REMOVAL OF ZINC IONS FROM WASTE WATERS BY ADSORPTION ON ALUMINOSULICATES

Zinc exisist in textile waste waters in higher or lower amounts as a result of finishing process in textile industry. In amounts higher than 2mg/dm3 it could be very dangerous for life of organisms in water system and so indirectly for people. Therefore it is important to find a system which will completely eliminate Zn2+ions from water by saving of time, material and energy. Adsorption and ion exchange were often used for removal of cations from water (Schwuger, M. el.al. 1976; Clifford, D. et.al. 1986.; Došen-Šver, D. et.al. 1988., 1996.). In this work natural and synthetic aluminosilicates as adsorbens by an adsorption method of contact dispersion were used. Zeolite A, a mixture of different aluminosilicates with about of 39% amorphous SiO2 and montmorillonite for removal of Zn2+ions from waste water after a cotton finishing process have been investigated. A bath with the amount of Zn(NO3)2 for the treatment of a cottin material agains the crumpling was used. In the waste water the concetration of remained zinc ion s by means of AA was determined. Aliquot parts of waste water were left in a contact with different amounts of adsorbent through two hours with stirring at 25oC. Before using the adsorbents were crumbled, sieved through a sieve pore size of 0,063 mm and dried at 130 oC. (Zeolit A at 360 oC). Aliquot parts of 50 cm 3 of waste water with initial zinc ion concentrations of 58, 75, 90 and 1302mg/dm3 were left by the contact with 0,1; 0,3; or 0,5 g of adsorbents. The results of these investigations were followed by measurements of zinc ion concetration by AA, eletrical conductivity and pH value of filtrates.
