The Challenges of Hotel Human Resources Management

Many hotel executives now regard a trained and stable workforce as a resource to be conserved, enhanced, and renewed. This view is a great contrast to the idea of employees as problems &#8211 ; resources that can be replaced at will. But, even executives from the hospitality industry have supported the importance of human relations in a number of research studies, in practice they do not value highly its significance in comparison to other business functional areas. Why hotel organizations have not fully embraced the importance of effective human resources management? Essentially, although the hotel industry recognises the importance of human resources and the potential of hotel employees, it continues to focus its efforts on short-term profitability and market related operational issues. A crucial aspect of the new concept of human resources is the recognition that corporate survival is more than a matter of identifying market opportunities. There is a need for management's ability to meet market needs with a productive, stable and committed workforce. In this paper will be presented a System of human resource management in a hotel organisation as well as some challenges that face today Hotel management. Suggestions are based upon previous author's and international researches. Therefore, the aim of this paper is, according to the importance of skilled human resources and management, to suggest how to organise human resource function in the hotel and which important dimensions of human resources management all managers in organisations should have in mind.
