Primjenjivost molekularnih biomarkera u kontroli kvalitete voda Hrvatske
One of the fundamental goals in water quality monitoring is to determine the changes in time in an effort to predict and prognosticate the water quality in shorter and longer time intervals. The ultimate goal of biomonitoring is to determine the biological effect of the changes in water quality. The most modern methods have been applied at Ruđer Bošković Institute of Zagreb, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek, and University of Zagreb in fresh waters and sea pollution research with the help of molecular biomarkers for quite some time. In the year 2001, in association with the Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA), these institutes initiated a common international project of biomonitoring establishment at sea, rivers and river mouths (CroWat). In this paper, concerete examples are used for comparison of the results of classical monitoring by measuring chemical parameters of water with the results of biomonitoring by measuring the magnitudes of single molecular biomarkers in the same localities, and for presentation of advantages and necessity of using molecular biomarkers in future water quality monitoring in Croatia.
