Sažetak
Proteinuria is a frequent finding in renal disease progression. Once the kidney impairment occurs, disease progression cannot be stopped. Increased protein metabolism, glomerular bacterial infections or consequent glomerular impairment stimulate activation of complement that induces different inflammatory processes, and possible activation and infiltration of T lymphocytes. Mononuclear cells involved in glomerular lesions are found also in urine of affected patients. Using monoclonal antileukocyte antibodies: CD4, CD8, CD3, CD56, CD14 and CD20, we performed immunophenotyping of peripheral blood and fresh urine samples from 30 controls and 40 patients with various renal diseases on FACScan flow cytometer, Becton Dickinson, USA. Patient samples were processed prior to kidney biopsy. Mononuclear cells were not found in the control group but in 17 urine samples from 40 patients. The results correlated with renal biopsy findings. Although biopsy is still a gold standard in diagnosis of renal diseases, urine immunophenotyping findings yield additional useful information on the actual disease status.
