Optimization of Conditions for Effective Coagulation : Floculation Decolorization of Textile Waste Water

In this paper coagulation / flocculation process in combination with adsorption on activated carbon was employed for decolourise and purify waster water after reactive dyeing process. According to literature this is an economically feasible and ecologically friendly method of dye removal. Two reactive dyestuffs were chosen as model dyes: 1. monofunctional (vinilsulphone) Bezaktiv Brillantblau V-R (tt. Bezema), C.I. Reactive Blue 19, 61200, anthraquinone chromophore and 2. bifunctional (monochlorthreazine / vinilsulphone) Bezaktiv Rot S-3R (tt. Bezema), azo chromophore. Influence of dyestuff constitution, dyestuff concentration and fastness of mixing on efficiency of decolourising and purifying was investigated. The optimum coagulant and flocculant concentration was defined regarding measuring concentration of residual dyestuff, potential, conductivity, COD and TOC. Results obtained indicate satisfactory degree of decolourising and purifying regarding suggested quality of water that can be let out in river or recycled - used in new dyeing process.
