Design and Technology Guidelines of CAD/CAM System for Ffoot Orthoses

Design and production of custom foot orthoses (insoles) has historically been an inexact, inefficient and mostly manual process. Development of CAD/CAM techniques has significantly reduced the drawbacks of the historic techniques. However, CAD/CAM system, in order to fulfill the requests and expectations, should include a number of possibilities to support efficient design and manufacturing of insoles. This paper gives an overview on some characteristics of the foot and footwear which directly implies the features of the future insole, same as the technology that should be applied for its manufacturing. It will explain the relations between some designing features and technological requirements necessary to realize those features. Some of the technological challenges and solutions will be explained for the CAD/CAM system Modeler.
