Teaching Information Technology at the Undergraduate Level &#8211 ; Current Issues and the Future
The aim of the paper is to stress the problem of insufficient education in information technology of students that enroll to the Faculty of Economics - Zagreb. The course Informatics is the only course at the Faculty of Economics &#8211 ; Zagreb that all of the students attend. We shall present in what ways we educate our students in information technology, and in what ways we try to encourage them to expand their knowledge after they pass the exam. Distance learning is one of the possible approaches for the independent education and we have investigated the preference of our students for such method of teaching. The paper is based on the several surveys conducted during a number of years at the Faculty of Economics &#8211 ; Zagreb with first year students. Surveys are realized at the beginning and at the end of the year. Surveys at the beginning of the year enable us to determine profile of information knowledge of our newly enrolled students, while surveys at the end of the year enable us to evaluate the level of satisfaction of our students with the contents of the course teaching information technology. Second issue of the survey is to assess to what extent our students are ready to accept Web based education as the road to the knowledge in information technology.
