Algorithm and program for quantitative analysis of changes under the model of differences
In kinesiology, as in all other anthropological disciplines, an experimental design with one or more dependent groups of entities in a repeated measures is frequently used. This design may be multivariately solved under certain conditions by means of discriminant analysis. The analysis of quantitative changes of a set of entities, measured in two time points by applying the same set of quantitative multivariate normally distributed variables was described by Rao (1965), Morrison (1967) and Momirović et al. (1984). The discriminative function is computed on the basis of differences between the results of entities in two time points. The hypothesis about the statistical significance of the difference (discriminative functions) is tested on the basis of Mahalanobis distance between the centroids of vectors that represent the first and second measurement. Besides, it is possible, however, not necessary, to carry out the testing of the statistical significance of differences between two arithmetic means of dependent groups separately for each variable. Still, advantage should be given to multivariate test of differences. The method is implemented in the program system for the multivariate analysis SS (Statistical System) that was written in the program language FORTRAN and whose authors were Štalec, Zakrajšek and Momirović (1974), who derived this program under the name SSDIFF.The program was modified and re-programmed by Momirović, Erjavec, Dugić, Knezović (1986) in the program language GENSTAT, under the name DIFFG.In congruence with the decision made by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Republic of Croatia from March 2001 the program system STATISTICA is at the disposal of the researchers and students from all Croatian universities and since this system does not contain the listed procedures, the implementation of the presented program is proposed by this paper. The program was written in the program language STATISTICA BASIC of the program system STATISTICA versions 5.0 and 5.5, specialized for the multivariate analysis. The program is started by the option STATISTICA BASIC Program that may be found in the sub-menu Open Other of the drop-down menu File. Upon the selection of variables selecting the option Execute, starts the program.
