Effect of Some Monocyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons on Freshwater Invertebrates

Acute toxicity of 10 aromatic hydrocarbons was tested during 96 hr. We wanted to find out how toxicity depends upon the position of different radicals on the benzene ring. We studied toxic influence of the mentioned compounds on four freshwater invertebrates, crustaceans Asellus aquaticus L. and Gammarus fossarum Koch. and snails Amphimelania holandri Fer. and Viviparus viviparus L., inhabiting freshwaters throughout Europe.
