Silver-graphite contact materials
While selecting contact material, occurences caused by electric current through closed contacts, as well as those that appear during powering on or off, must be taken into consideration. Optimal properties in many applications were obtained by use of sintered materials. Sintered materials properties, wheter scalar or density, or vector as electric conductivity depend on compound and manufacture process. In heavy duty working conditions materials coposed of silver with an addition of graphite shows certain advantages, especially those with 3%-5% of graphite in weigth. Besides the conventionalsintering technology, these materials are produced by sintered blocks extrusion that increases their density. Besides, high reshaping degree allows graphite forming into uniform, thin parallel lines. Placing the fibres in different directions in relation to the contact surface, more favourable material conduction can be achieved in different applications.
