The effect of topical treatment on tryptase and ECP in sinus lavage of asthmatic patients
The study was designed to test if the sinus aspirates in the asthmatics reflect inflammatory process driven by Th2 cytokine profile mediators, measured by markers of activated eosinophils and mastocytes Study was conducted in 18 asthmatics with chronic rhinosinusitis.Sinus samples were taken by sinoscopy at day 1, and through poliethylene tube at day 7 respectively, stored at room temperature for 2 hours, centrifuged at 1000xg for 10 minutes and stored at &#8211 ; 20oC, and blood samples were taken in 4ccm vacutainer just before sinoscopy and after last treatment and analysed for ECP and tryptase using fluoroenzymeimmunoassay. Endosinusal treatment (2mg dexamethasone+20mg gentamycine per sinus) was applied through polyethylene tube. Endosinusal treatment significantly reduced ECP and tryptase levels in sinus lavage and serum samples. Sinus aspirates in the asthmatics reflect inflammatory process driven by Th2 cytokine profile mediators.
