The Ethics of Interpretation, and not an Ethics of Communication?!
The increasingly central position of hermeneutics in the present philosophical scene depends precisely on its orientation towards ethics and the way it affirms ethics as a positive element in the critique of traditional metaphysics and scientism, that is its most recent configuration. This article is an attempt to - through the affirmation of vattimo's position (ethics of interpretation) and the critique of Habermas' (ethics of communication) - recognize hermeneutics as provenance and destiny, as the thought of the final epoch of metaphysics, and thus of nihilism. It can find in "negativity", in dissolution as the "destiny of being" - given not as the presence of the arche, but only as provenance - the orienting principle that enables it to realize its own original inclination for ethics qhilst neither restoring metaphysics nor surrending to the futility of a relativistic philosophy of culture.
