GSM/GPRS-WLAN Interworking Solutions

Current cellular systems are not able to answer the high bandwidth demand of typical IP-based office applications. In the hot spot environments, WLAN is bringing an complementary technology toward cellular. This paper gives an overview of possible solutions for interconnecting GSM/GPRS and WLAN network. A new WLAN system architecture that combines the WLAN radio access technology with mobile operators' SIM-based subscriber management functions and roaming infrastructure is described.
