Tetracyclin-induced acute interstitial nephritis
A case of tetracyclin-induced acute interstitial nephritis (AIN) is presented. A 65-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital for non-oliguric acute renal failure, fever, arthralgia, leukocyturia and pro- teinuria In conclusion. we could underline that AIN is most often induced by drug therapy. It has long been recognised that drugs are common cause of acute immunoallergic interstitial nephritis, and analgesics or antibiotics are welI-known causative agents. It is difficult to determine by which drug is responsible for AIN if patient is taking a few of them. In this situation, the lymphocyte transformation test is useful to discriminate the possible drug. The treatment of AIN depends upon of severity of renal dysfunction. Treatment consistent of the withdrawal of drug, supportive therapy and corticosteroids. which are indicated in patients in whom the drug discontinuation does not produce improvement in renal function.
