Water tunnels damages and repair under complex seismo-tectonic conditions at the "Rama" power plant
The water supply system of Hydroelectrical power plant "Rama" has been built in geologically heterogeneous rocks with considerable seismic activity. Recent earthquakes and tectonic activity, expressed by measurable movements of the rock, caused appearance of damages on the concrete lining along the directions of active fault zones. Additionally, the water that leaked under pressure from the tunnel caused rock deterioration. Coincidence of places of big damages on concrete lining and places of active seismic faults and fissures of R-1 type clearly indicated their correlation. Consolidation of the rock performed by prestressed, consolidation and contact grouting gave better results when: -Better penetration of grout mixture was enabled; grout pressures increased and grouting depth increased. -Sealing of the fissures in the concrete lining needed to be performed in the same way and with materials adapted to the dynamic processes and movements of the rock. In order to achieve long-lasting effects of re-profiling the concrete lining with micro reinforced mortar and additional reinforcement, it would be needed to previously make a repair of fissures that enable expected movements.
