Short term effects of ambient NO2 on mortality in Zagreb, Croatia
Short term effects of ambient NO2 concentration on weekly mortality were investigated using standard data analysis protocol set up for the APHEA project. Weekly mortality was used as an indicator of possible health effects. Meteorological variables (temperature, air pressure and relative humidity) and indicator of weeks with influenza epidemics were included in the analysis as possible confounders. Trend and seasonality effects were estimated by locally weighted regression (LOESS). Final model was analysed using Poisson regression, accounting for overdispersion and autocorrelated error term. Among meteorological variables only average temperature was significantly associated with mortality. Evidence on the effects of influenza and NO2 on mortality was inconclusive.
