Simulation and Measurement of Spike Voltage over Voltage Transformer Windings
• Instrument transformers are subjected to various types of transient overvoltages due to lightning strikes or switching operations during their lifetime. • They are designed to withstand such events for decades with minimal maintenance. • Distribution of lightning impulse transient overvoltages is often computed in order to properly dimension the insulation during the design phase. • Usually, FEM based solvers are used → can lead to long calculation time and high memory requirements. • In this research, the influence of spike type of fast transient overvoltage over the voltage transformer winding is conducted. • Can be necessary for GIS or some standards (SFS 2646).
