The integration of service-learning (SL) and curriculum provides students with opportunities to apply newly acquired knowledge and skills in real-life situations and address community needs. Community needs depend on various circumstances (size and location of community, social and economic environment, characteristics of community activity, such as tourism, sports, education, etc.). Therefore, it is very important to carefully consider, plan and organize SL activities that respond to the community’s needs, and the cooperation of universities and partner organizations /institutions in the community. Here, a brief overview of the implementation of the SL at the University of Split will be given, with special emphasis on properly addressing community needs prior to defining SL project.
