Collective wellbeing during the Covid-19 pandemic in Croatia – how have music and musicians contributed to social and cultural cohesion in virtual space

Starting from the fact that for the psychological and subjective wellbeing of the individual and the entire social community culture is one of the significant segments, in which man is an active creator or consumer of cultural content, this paper will consider how music and musicians contributed to the realization of social and cultural cohesion in virtual space during Covid-19 pandemic in Croatia. In doing so, two aspects of the above-mentioned topic will be analysed: the adaptation of music programs to the virtual space, i.e., the "digital turn" (Camlin and Lisboa 2021) and an example of positive practice will be presented – the national initiative "Prodiši", in which professional musicians – opera singers, in addition to their initial role as artists, with a holistic approach, became post-covid rehabilitators, thus contributing to the health wellbeing of individuals. The methodology used to process the mentioned topic included the collection of data using the observation method, after which a thematic analysis of the content and interpretation of the results on a qualitative and quantitative level was completed. The results showed that the adaptation of the music sector to the new circumstances and the implementation of music programs in virtual space significantly contributed to social and cultural cohesion, thus achieving positive effects on psychological and subjective wellbeing, and the example of good practice is an indicator of how the initiative of musicians can achieve positive health effects.
