Management and risk in Croatian firms - Empirical study
This paper links elements in relation to risk management and organizational performance with risk perception and describes attitudes of Croatian managers in respect to this subject. Main intention of the paper is to analyse perception of business risk of managers in Croatian firms. Every managerial decision involves many elements of risk in most of the key issues. Therefore, the ability to understand and effectively manage these risks is a very important ingredient in successful management. Empirical research shows how Croatian managers do not define risk as a negative category. The most important factor that influences risk creation according to managers in the survey is limited information while political risk is found to be the most influential type of risk. Croatian managers find globalization to be the most distinctive mega trend which has the strongest influence on risk levels in the environment. From a business perspective, risk is definitely the highest in nearby transition east European countries. Results of the study gave support to the hypothesis that there is no difference in perception of risk between Croatian managers in respect to their management level as well as in respect to origin of ownership of the company.
